Doing a simple audit

Essential Eight audits shouldn’t be complicated and lengthy. This tutorial demonstrates the straightforward steps to perform an organisational audit from a single computer within minutes.

Obtain the software
Purchase the “Single device 30 day license” from the license shop. This will allow you to perform an audit on one machine to validate your security posture against the Essential Eight criteria.

Run SecurE8Auditor
Execute as a standard user (non-admin) however if you want to analyse Restrict Admin Privilege then you will need to execute using an administrator account. Either way the account used needs to be an domain account and not a local account. To start the scan you just need to press “Y” on the user agreement.

Execute
Wait for the Magic
Within a few minutes the machine will be completly audited and the results will be displayed on the screen. In addition a document with the results is created.

Gather
Open the word document
Open the word document to view the results and examine the captured artifacts. You may need to make minor adjustments like adding in artifacts for “MFA” and “Regular Backup” but mostly everthing is fully automated.

Report
Share the report with stakeholders
You are all done at this point. You may want to consider doing ongoing automated audits accross your entire fleet. For that you can upgrade your license to a “Sitewide 365 days license”.
